Local Representatives

You are represented by three elected bodies and an appointed body. At the City level, the Pleasanton City Council represents you with City issues like: planning, building, traffic, parks, library, and recreation programs. The City Council also appoints youth like yourself to a Youth Commission. The Youth Commission acts as a liaison between Pleasanton's youth community and the City Council, advises the Council on youth-related issues, and promotes an understanding and appreciation of community affairs among the youth of Pleasanton. At the county level you are represented by the Board of Supervisors. For your schools, you are represented by the Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees. The Governor and State Executive Branch

The Executive Branch consists of the agencies, departments, boards, and commissions that serve the people of the State of California. The administration of this branch is conducted by elected officials: the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, and Chair of the Board of Equalization. Contact these offices if you would like access to, or seeking information from, various state programs and services.

State Senate and Assembly

The Legislative Branch is composed of two houses: the Senate and the Assembly. There are 40 Senators and 80 Assembly Members. Both houses are responsible for enacting state laws, grants agencies statutory powers and duties, and adopts the state budget. If you are having difficulty accessing state services and programs, contact your local state senator and assemblymember. One of the primary jobs of these elected officials is to act as an ombudsman for local constituents. They are also responsible for introducing new legislation. If you feel strongly about a new or existing policy issue, contact your local representative by phone or by writing a letter to let them know how you feel.

U.S. President

The U.S. President is the Chief Executive Officer of the United States government. The Executive Office of the President is made up of White House offices and agencies. These offices, such as the National Security Council and the Office of Management and Budget help develop and implement the policy and programs of the President. Contact the Office of the President if you would like to voice your opinion about national issues.

U.S. Congress

The Congress of the United States is the legislative branch of the federal government. Comprised of the House of Representatives and the Senate, the Congress brings together 435 representatives of the people, 100 Senators from 50 states, and 5 delegates from the territories of the United States -- an assembly of 540 to make the laws that govern the nation. If you feel strongly about a new or existing national issue, contact your local representative by phone or in writing.
